Frequently Asked Questions
FurryTales is about creating an enriching environment where we maintain balanced energy and the pack understands the rules of engagement. Dogs need structure, socialization and safety.
We provide all of this here, but only through a “training forward” approach. We do not view our daycare as a “once in a while” or “last minute need” for our dogs. It is a place for them to build their own community and extended family through routine interaction.
Our lines of communication stay rooted in the foundations of canine behavior and animal psychology. This way our dogs have a space to have fun and “be a dog,” but with boundaries that allow for comfortable and safe dynamics.

What is the process for enrolling in your Daycare or Boarding?
If you have not engaged in training with us, you must first complete our online application found here. Once approved, we will schedule you for a complimentary 2 hour observation where we assess your dog’s temperament, response to basic commands and calls for low level impulse control. Upon completion of the observation, we will provide you with a tour of our facility and open booking services to you. If you’re interested in training, we will follow up with an email or phone call to learn more.
Once my dog is approved, can they attend no matter what?
Dogs, like all living creatures, experience behavioral and emotional change over time. We send out regular updates and do report any variances we observe proactively. However, if we note anything that becomes disruptive or unsafe for our pack, we may either suggest leveraging a training program (either with us or your own trusted trainer) or suspending services until the root of the behavior is resolved. If you’re unable or unwilling to address any red flag behaviors, we will no longer be able to provide our services.
What are some of the behavioral “red flags” you look out for?
-
General reactivity towards other dogs or handlers (e.g. intense forward assertion, warning growls, snapping, etc.)
-
Extreme anxiety and vocalizations
-
Inability to settle
-
Excessive jumping, anxiety and reactivity around gateways and doors
-
Incessant humping or mounting
-
Overall uneasiness in the environment / unwilling to engage with any other dogs or people (we want your dog to have a positive experience with us, not be forced to participate in a space not suited for them)
We cannot accept these behaviors unless we’re able to leverage a training approach to remediate. We’re always happy to work in tandem with other local trainers to achieve a positive outcome for your dog.
If my dog displays some of these, will my application automatically be turned down?
Depending on what we observe, we may encourage you to either consider a training program, or ease your dog into our environment through brief sessions. We are very aware that new settings can be stressful for dogs, so some of these early warning signs may just be a reflection of that uneasiness. However, for behaviors that can only be remedied through a training process, we must turn down the application until one can be developed.
How do I receive updates about my dog?
We provide 3 photo/video updates daily through a dedicated WhatsApp channel for your dog. This is a direct line of communication with our team where we encourage you to enjoy the content and have fun with the chatter! However, for important or urgent requests, we kindly ask for you to email our administrator@furrytalesnj.com account so that nothing is missed on our end.
Is there 24 hour staffing?
Yes, we’re staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Do you provide dog walks?
We do not provide dog walks as a service. Dogs who are boarding will be provided with 1 walk a day. Daycare dogs are not provided walks unless you’re participating in our “Training School” program (set to launch this Fall).
Can I bring my dogs meals for daycare?
Yes, you may provide a labeled lunchbox or bag with your dog’s food. For dogs who attend regularly and will need to be fed each day, you may store food with us long term.
When can we tour the facility?
Tours are offered Monday through Friday from 10am - 4pm. We like to provide tours during a time where you can both see our full operation, and also receive 1:1 time with a staff member to address your questions.
Are dogs separated by size?
No they are not. We separate throughout the day based on energy (e.g one room might be the “nap” room while the other one is filled with the more playful dogs). Most of our dogs have trained with us, and if they haven’t, they attend regularly so that the pack is familiar with one another. This helps us ensure each dog understands how to safely interact in the setting, they’re able to find their friends each time, and they know the routine / how to settle and have boundaries.
What are your hours of operation?
Our official hours of operation are 7am - 7pm, seven days a week. All daycare, boarding and training drop offs and pick ups can be done within this timeframe. For any urgent, after hours requests, please notify us in advance and we can accommodate at an additional fee.
What are your transport times and which locations do you serve?
Currently, our “doggy school” bus travels in and out of Hoboken along River Road. We also serve the local Fort Lee area. Transport is only offered on weekdays between 7 - 9am for morning pick up and 5 - 7pm for evening drop off. Ten minute arrival windows are provided the morning and afternoon of your scheduled service. Arrival times are dependent on our sign ups and route each day, therefore, are subject to vary.
